SCENE 6
At number 30, Patricia Booth already had two uniformed officers in
her living room.
“That’s him!” Patricia shouted, peering through the curtains to the
man being led away in handcuffs. “That’s him, the man who was coming out of
their house,” she exaggerated, wildly stabbing her finger towards the window
and looking across to the deadpan faces of the officers.
“Ok, Mrs Booth, we'd like you to come down to the police station and
make a statement,” said one of the officers.
“What, now?” Patricia
enquired, the bubble of morbid excitement bursting immediately.
“Yes, do you have something warm to wear?”
Patricia felt out of sorts now, and cursed her neighbour for this
inconvenience. She slowly manoeuvred towards the hallway to get her winter
coat.
